Coumadin Clinic

Coumadin is a medication given to patients to prevent, and/or treat blood clots and the complications that are associated with them.

Jefferson Medical's Coumadin Clinic has a registered nurse checking PT/INR (protime).  The test is done with a simple fingerstick versus the more invasive venipuncture.  The nurse also performs a quick assessment of the patient and records the blood pressure.  After the sample is taken, it is put into a Coagucheck machine, and the protime results are ready in less than 30 seconds.  Changes in coumadin dosage, if necessary, are made at this visit.  The appointment only takes 10 minutes on average.
